Service in the Second World War
Donald enrolled in the No. 1 Detachment of the R.C.O.C AF in the Canadian Army at London Ontario on the third day of July 1941. Some of the details which characterized his life at this time were:
  • He was Married since July 1, 1936.
  • Worked as a shoe craftsman with Scott and McHale.
  • Had a 3 year old daughter, a 2 year old son and a wife 5 months pregnant at home.

    During his service in the war
  • Served in Central Mediterranean Area. The London Ontario Regiment suffered 80% of all loses in Italy during the early part of their campaign.

    Post War Activity
  • Returned home without physical injuries. However, there are many scares of war that remain unseen and are common in the stories of a soldier.
  • Returned home to a daughter 7 years old, sons 6 and 4 years old.
  • Discharged at the beginning of 1946.
  • Extended the family with the introduction of a second daughter a year later.
