Stage 2: Parts purchased and Work Started
I have purchased a number of parts for the car. I still do not have it on the road but I have to say that we had a lot of rain in the spring of 2005.
Parts:
- Two metal fenders: The passenger side fender is in near mint condition. It has a small pin hole on the top that cane be easily repaired. The driver side fender
is in good condition. The top is near mint. The bottom of the fender is banged up a little. It can be straightened or a new piece may need to be welded in on the bottom.
- Front spoiler: The front spoiler is an after market fiberglass piece. The condition is very good to excellent. At this time I am still thinking about purchasing a rear
spoiler. I did not like the rear spoiler until I saw the one on the back of the 1971 Super Bee.
- Bulge/Rallye hood (1973 hood): This hood needs a little work but I think it can be salvaged. To find one of these hoods in good to fair condition
is about $500 to $750 US. To find one of these hoods in great condition would be about $1000 to $1500 US. The hood I have now had a
snorkel hood scoop riveted on (about 50 drill holes) and a vent cut in the top. The good thing is that the vent was only cut on three sides
and the metal bent up. I believe the hood can be repaired. I have removed the snorkel and things do not look so bad. I am now looking for a welder.

This is a similar hood after it had been refinished and repainted. This is to give you an idea why I wanted to go with the rallye hood.

- Front and rear seats: The seats are white with a black/orange cloth insert. They have very little wear for being 30plus years old.

- Shifter and linkage without the actual console (still looking). I may not use this part but then again I may.
I most likely will have a floor shifter installed. However, I may purchase a B&M shifter.
- Steering column without a column shift
- New body mounts
- Rear lights: I have a line on rear lights for a 1971 RT Charger. I think that they will fit a 1974. I like them but I will have to see what the guy wants for them.

I am planning on removing the rubber bumper pads from the front of the car. I may also do the same for the back.
Work:
- Floor: I removed the carpet to view what needed to be done. It would be hard to find a Dodge from this period that did not need work to the floor or trunk.
The rear floor pans are in excellent condition (no work needed).
The front floor pans are not in excellent condition but they are not bad. The passenger side had about three very small holes about the diameter of a dime (at most). There is also some water coming in this side of the car. The car was parked under a pine
tree obviously. There were needles under all the chrome pieces covering the window. I cleaned this area. This could have caused a lot of damage down the road. The pine needles also got into the
venting for fresh air which clogged the drains for the rain water. The water then backs up and goes into the internal fresh air vents. This is a easy repair. I just have to spend a day removing the front fenders.
The front driver's floor pan has a little more to repair. There is one hole about the size of a silver dollar.
- Trunk: The trunk is actually in very good to excellent condition. There is one area above the passenger side wheel well which will need a patch about 7x3 inches or 15x7 cm.
I pulled up all the chaulking in the trunk since I was told this is wear rot will be found. There was a little surface rust but no rot. It can be cleaned. Most of the trunk floor still has the original paint and stickers.
- Driver side rear quarter panel: The panel has been repaired before. It is not in real bad condition. I do not think that the panel will have to be replaced. It will have to be patched.
- Passenger side rear quarter panel: This panel was damaged before in an accident, repaired and patched. The panel could be replaced or a new panel installed. We will see what the body man has to say when I find him.
- Rocker panels: The rocker panels are in very good shape. They will have to be cleaned up but they will not need to be replaced.
- Doors: Both door have some rust located at the bottom front on the outside.
in very good shape. They will have to be cleaned up a little. They are not bad and the repairs should be pretty easy. The bottom edge of the door and the bottom inside look pretty solid.
Colour:
I have collected a number of pictures of Chargers. I have decided that I am not going to try to stay original with the car.
The thing about the Chargers from 1973 and 1974 is that they tried to make them more appealing to a wider market. So some of
the items such as colour and stripe kits were a little more conservative. So this being said I am mostly going to put on a colour
and stripe kit from a 1971 Charger. So this is what I think the car will end up looking like. I could change the colour but I think the stripe is a go.
The colour is LE5 BUTTERSCOTCH which was a color from 1969 to 1971.
